# Clean Up

> Turn a messy note into clean, structured writing; add follow-ups to refine it.

## Overview

The Clean Up feature instantly transforms messy notes into clear, structured writing with just one click. Powered by AI, it automatically corrects grammar, spelling, and formatting—like adjusting headings, fixing capitalization, and smoothing sentence flow.

You can use Clean Up on any note—including voice notes and those created through the Mem Chrome Extension.

## How to Use Clean Up

        To start, open any existing note in the Mem app. Tap into the note to bring up the keyboard and Mem toolbar menu. Tap the broom icon, the first one on the left of the toolbar menu.

        Click the broom icon, and the Cleanup process will begin immediately.

        When processing is complete, you’ll see suggested improvements:

        \* **Blue text:** AI’s suggested changes

        \* **Red cross-out:** Text detected for removal or correction

        Under Clean Up at the top right, you’ll find these choices:

        \* **Refine:** Run Clean Up again if you want more edits

        \* **Accept:** Apply the changes to your note

        \* **X:** Cancel and keep your original note

        You can enter instructions in the Refine box on how you would like to improve the edits, i.e., *Rewrite this note in a professional manner.*

        If you’re happy with the suggestions, click **Accept**. Your note will instantly update with the new changes.

        Create a note with new content or open an existing note. The Clean Up feature works only in a note with content. The broom icon is grayed out in an empty note.

        Tap into the open note to bring up the keyboard and the toolbar menu. Tap the broom icon (first one on the left) to begin Clean Up.

**What do the colors mean in the edited note?**

* **Red with a strikethrough** = text that was removed.
* **Blue** = text that was added or improved.

This makes it easy to see exactly what changed.

**Can I use Clean Up on voice notes or notes imported from other sources like the Mem Chrome Extension?**\
Yes. Clean Up works on any text in Mem—whether it was typed directly, transcribed from voice, or clipped from the web.

**Will Clean Up change the note’s formatting, such as headings and lists?**\
Yes. Clean Up can automatically format headings, lists, and spacing to make your note more structured.

**Can I undo or revert edits after accepting them?**\
Yes. If you don’t like the edits, you can always undo them using Mem’s undo function or restore from your note’s version history.

**What happens if I click “Refine” multiple times?**\
Each time you click **Refine**, Mem builds on the last version, making additional improvements based on your feedback.

**Can I run Clean Up more than once on the same note?**\
Yes. You can use Clean Up as often as you need until the note feels just right.

**Does Clean Up work on very long notes or complex documents?**\
Yes, but results may take slightly longer to generate. Clean Up is designed to handle long and detailed notes.

**Are there any limits to how often I can use Clean Up?**\
There are no strict daily limits.
