# Reset the Desktop App

> Clear local desktop app data when Mem is stuck or showing an unrecoverable error

# Reset the Desktop App

If the Mem desktop app is stuck, keeps showing an unrecoverable error, or will not recover after restarting, you can reset the local desktop app data and restart Mem.

Use this only for the desktop app on macOS or Windows. If Mem works in your browser but the desktop app is stuck, this can help clear a bad local app state.

## Before You Reset

Try these first:

1. Quit and reopen the desktop app.
2. Check for updates from the desktop app menu.
3. If you can, make sure any recent changes have synced before resetting.

## Reset Mem Desktop

1. Open the Mem desktop app.
2. In the app menu, select **Help**.
3. Select **Clear Application Data...**.
4. In the confirmation dialog, select **Clear and Restart**.
5. After Mem restarts, sign in again if prompted.

This clears local desktop app data on your computer, signs you out, resets the app to its original state, and restarts it. It is meant for rare recovery cases where the desktop app cannot get back to a usable state.

## If the App Is Still Stuck

If the desktop app still shows the same error after resetting:

1. Open Mem in a browser at [mem.ai](https://mem.ai) to confirm your account is accessible.
2. Update the desktop app to the latest version.
3. Contact [support@mem.ai](mailto:support@mem.ai) with your operating system, desktop app version, and a screenshot of the error.
